LET THE DOG SEE THE RABBIT!

by Henry Rowe 15. January 2010 16:21

An old fashioned turn of phrase, which could just as easily apply to someone selling their home.

One of the biggest problems that Kevin Henry come across in selling a home is houses that have too much in them.  This doesn't allow prospective buyers to fully appreciate the size of the property and often gives the impression that the house is smaller than it is.  While we do not advocate completely sterilising a home and making it devoid of any interest, it is important not to have your home over-furnished and full of clutter.

Therefore, look around rooms and see if you have, perhaps, too much furniture in them.  Worksurfaces in kitchens should be clean and tidy.  Avoid putting empty biscuit tins and Tupperware on top of cupboards.  Fridges adorned with photographs and fridge magnets are interesting, but can distract potential buyers.  In bedrooms, again, avoid putting things on top of wardrobes, under beds and cluttered bedside tables and chest of drawers.

Bathrooms should sparkle and be almost devoid of shampoo, conditioners, Ladyshaves etc.  Just sparkling baths and fluffy white towels!

This also applies to the outside of your property.  Make sure the front garden is clean, tidy and inviting; garage well organised and garden shed tidy.

All this goes to create the impression that a home is loved and cared for and makes our job even easier.

If you are thinking of selling at some time in the future, why not call Kevin or Henry and we will be happy to advise not only on the value of your home, but how best to present it.
